The reason: what leaders ask for and what they actually need are often different things. A short assessment helps us identify where development efforts will produce real leverage — and where they'd be a waste of time and money.
The best time to sharpen your decision-making is before you need to. Most organizational crises I've seen could have been avoided — or significantly softened — if leaders had been thinking more clearly six months earlier. Working with a thinking partner before you're in crisis is much cheaper, and much more effective, than working with one during.
You're not alone — many leaders worry it'll feel exposing or performative. My approach is conversational and grounded, closer to thinking out loud with someone whose only job is to help you see your situation more clearly. There's no curriculum, no homework, no proprietary framework. Just careful attention to what's actually in front of you.
Both. About two-thirds of my career has been in the nonprofit sector, so I have particular fluency with mission-driven organizations, funder dynamics, and the constraints nonprofit leaders work inside. I also work with for-profit leaders — especially founders and executives in growing companies where the human side of strategy is doing more and more of the heavy lifting.
Many leadership coaches come from business backgrounds. I came to this work through psychology and counseling, which means I bring a clinician's attention to human behavior into the room with you. Strategy lives or dies on how people actually think and respond — and that's the part of the equation most consulting frameworks underweight.
